Richard has been an Information Technology professional for over thirty years, bringing a wealth of experience across a broad range of disciplines including diagnostic analysis, application design and development, architectural configuration, systems integration, and database administration.

His career began with the development and maintenance of MUMPS-based applications, where he gained deep expertise in healthcare and legacy systems. Building on this foundation, he transitioned into a database administration role, managing Digital Systems MUMPS environments and ensuring data integrity and system performance in highly specialized environments. This experience laid the groundwork for his subsequent role as an Oracle Database Administrator, where he expanded his skills in relational database systems and enterprise data management.

As his understanding of complex systems grew, Richard evolved into a systems architect, focusing on designing scalable, efficient, and secure solutions. This role naturally progressed into cloud architecture, with a primary emphasis on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Leveraging AWS technologies, he contributed to the design and deployment of a robust, multi-account organizational cloud infrastructure. His architectural work has included cloud migration strategies, cost optimization, identity and access management, automation using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and the development of secure, high-availability environments.

Richard continues to be passionate about aligning technology with business objectives, driving innovation through strategic design, and mentoring others in best practices for modern cloud-native architecture.

Personal Profile

Outside of his professional life, Richard is a devoted husband and father to two young adults. He values time with family, lifelong learning, and personal growth. His interests extend beyond technology into music, the arts, and volunteering. He believes in the power of community, the importance of creativity, and the role of the arts in enriching both personal life and society. Richard has been a member of the Mendelssohn Club (https://www.mendelssohn.org/), one of the oldest and most respected choruses in the United States, where he contributes his voice to a tradition of musical excellence and community engagement.
